Height Tips

Sewing Furniture height... only HAKA has your needs in mind!
Over the years, HAKA Sewing Furniture has gained some savvy about sewing furniture height that we would like to share with you. We hope that you will find it useful in your sewing room.

Ergonomic needs of individuals differ
The height of sewing furniture is an essential ergonomic aspect to consider when setting up your sewing room. Just as a sewing pattern doesn't fit every body without personalizing alterations, one standard sewing furniture height doesn't take into account the physical differences between individual sewers, such as actual height, waist length, crotch depth, seated knee/thigh height, etc. You're all very different!
Only HAKA Sewing Furniture gives you sewing furniture that "fits"!

Why sewing and cutting sometimes hurt

Problem
: Do you get a pain in your neck and shoulders when you sew? Does sewing give you a headache? Do you quickly become fatigued when you sew?
The reason: Your machine is not sitting at the right height for you.

Problem: Does your back ache when you cut on your dining room table (or on your bed, or on the floor)?
The reason: Your cutting surface is not the right height for you.

Remedy: Choose the height you prefer for your sewing and cutting furniture.

HAKA Sewing Furniture offers you sewing and cutting height choices!
Drawing on over 15 years of experience in designing customer-inspired sewing furniture, HAKA offers "personalizing" height choices so you can have the correct height for your sewing and cutting.
This is truly unique in the world's sewing furniture market.

Choosing the height of your sewing cabinet
The height of your sewing cabinet plays a major part in your sewing comfort. We at HAKA Sewing Furniture have often heard from sewers at shows who complain that they develop a pain in their neck and shoulders when working at their sewing machines for any length of time. The reason for their discomfort is that their sewing machines are sitting too high, forcing them to continuously hold their arms up while they sew. This puts a constant strain on their neck and shoulder muscles, resulting in pain and fatigue.
How do you determine what sewing cabinet height is right for you? When sitting on a standard height chair - approx. 17" high (43.18cm), with your hands resting on the sewing table top, your elbows should form a right angle
.
Note: Remember that with HAKA's Tip-Matik lift (in the middle or flat bed position), the sewing/serging surface of your machine will be level with the table top when you are sewing.
HAKA's personalized height sewing, serging and quilting cabinets are the solution... 28", 29" or 30" (71.12cm, 73.66cm or 76.2cm).

The Tip-Matik Lift height advantage
With HAKA Sewing Furniture's authentic 3-position Tip-Matik sewing machine air lift, your sewing machine or serger will sit "recessed" into your table top so that the needle plate is level with your table top. Smooth! All with just a gentle push on your machine! The Tip-Matik lift does all the work (not like those light-weight, flimsy kitchen appliance "lifts" or simple fixed serger shelves that may not be the correct height for your serger). No more struggling to pull your fabric back up onto your machine... your sewing and quilting are sure to improve! The Tip-Matik Lift is a standard feature in all of HAKA's sewing, serging and quilting furniture.

Seating height
HAKA Sewing Furniture's #600 Storage Bench has been specifically designed for use with HAKA's 28", 29" or 30" (71.12cm, 73.66cm or 76.2cm) high Modular Style Cabinets - use the #600 Low and HAKA's 34" (86.36cm) high Multi-tasking Style Tables - use the #600 High.

Choosing your Cutting Table height
If you have been rotary cutting on a low surface like your dining room table, you have no doubt experienced back and shoulder pain. No wonder... your back is forced to support the weight of your upper body as you lean over to cut!
You can eliminate this pain with a HAKA Folding Cutting Table that is the correct height for you!
When deciding what height is best for you, keep in mind that when rotary cutting, the main cutting force should come from your shoulder - if your table is too high, this force will be diminished. Also, when standing at the side of your cutting table, you should be able to lean over to the middle of the table without disturbing the fabric.
HAKA Sewing Furniture offers you a choice of Cutting Table heights: 34" or 36" (86.36cm or 91.44cm) ... and we have even customized them - from as low as 32" to as high as 40" (81.28cm to as high as 101.6cm)!

Ironing board height
Now you can iron more comfortably, at your personal height choice AND save valuable floor space with HAKA's new Wall Mounted Ironing Board.

In conclusion
When you have the right equipment for the task (which, most importantly, "fits" you), you will work more easily and consequently better.
Your finished projects are sure to look more professional!

Sewing furniture tip
Sewing and serging machines vibrate when in use... avoid sewing furniture with flimsy moving parts that can become unstable.
